Today is the 10 month anniversary of Zoe's Gotcha Day! That sounds so strange to me, mainly because I have a hard time remembering life B.Z. (before Zoe). In all the months of waiting to travel to Taiwan, I couldn't imagine the time would come when I would be able to say, "We have been a family of four for almost a whole year!" It's interesting for me to go back and read my old blog postings - reading what I have written and seeing the pictures triggers so many other memories. One of the best things about this year has been watching the relationship develop between Zoe and Caleb. With 18 inches of snow on the ground and windchills below zero, we've been stuck inside for most of the time. With no one else to play with, Zoe and Caleb have actually been seeking each other out.
As you can see in the picture, Zoe the princess cowgirl has roped cow-Caleb with her scarf. What you can't know is how much laughter this evoked from both of them - their giggles filled the house for hours as they played this game. It's a far cry from 10 months ago, when Caleb would watch Zoe from across the room in much the same way a scientist observes lab animals. Now, when I'm carrying Zoe down the stairs and we pass the big portrait of the two kids together, Zoe points to it and says, "That's my brother." More than anything else, giving Zoe a big brother and Caleb a little sister (even if she is still occasionally an "annoying pain in the butt") may be the best thing we've done. Happy Anniversary, Zoe!
